A superb three bedroom Cottage in an elevated position, decorated in an industrial come beach-chic style with magnificent views over Mousehole village, harbour and Mounts BayLocation
Mousehole is one Cornwall’s most loved harbours. Timeless and evocative of a bygone era, small streets and alleyways wind around the sandy harbour. Cliff paths lead in both directions along spectacular coastline to secret coves. Perhaps more than any other part of the county, West Cornwall embodies these qualities, blessed with stunning white powdered shell beaches and crystal clear blue water for some of the best water sports and diving in the UK.
Once referred to as “The loveliest village in England” by Dylan Thomas, Mousehole’s pretty stone cottages, fine restaurants, the famous Ship Inn, the Old Coastguard Hotel, post office, grocery store and art galleries are clustered around the small medieval harbour. Nearby Newlyn, famous as one of the uk’s most important fishing harbours, now has its own independent cinema, delicatessen, quality restaurants, coffee shops and boutique shops.
Whilst West Cornwall is renowned for its awe-inspiring scenery, coastline, arts scene and legendary surfing, the area is fast developing as a culinary and sporting Mecca. There are a host of highly acclaimed restaurants in Penzance, St. Ives, Mousehole and Sennen. Meanwhile competitive dinghy sailing, wind surfing and kite surfing are synonymous with Mount’s Bay.Description
The property is at the top of Mount Pleasant Terrace and commands stunning panoramic views across the village, harbour and Mounts Bay with St Michaels Mount and The Lizard peninsular in the distance. The property is situated centrally in the village a short walk from the harbour and is reverse level to take full advantage of the views. The property was fully refurbished in 2017 complete with new wiring, plumbing, insulation and windows and is currently a very successful holiday let.
Through the front door into the hallway off which are two bedrooms and a bathroom. To the right is the double aspect principal bedroom with views over the roof tops to the harbour and Mounts Bay. Both windows have “plantation blinds” which can be folded back if required. The rear bedroom has a feature wall along with a window out onto the rear of the property. The bathroom has a “New York Loft” vibe with the use of brick effect ceramic tiles, a modern white suite to include a large walk in shower & vanity unit with slate top and rectangular sink. Within the hall is a spacious under stairs cupboard with limed oak effect flooring throughout the property.
A return staircase leads to the first floor where the landing opens up into the large open kitchen, dining and sitting area with windows to the front, side and rear. The window to the front is floor to ceiling triple panel and fully opening with a Juliet balcony giving uninterrupted views of the village, harbour and across Mounts Bay to the Mount itself and with the Lizard Peninsula in the distance. One of the walls is wood panelled in a rustic shabby chic style and there is a modern wood burner along with a wall mounted TV. The dining area which can accommodate up to eight people leads through to the kitchen which has striking dark blue painted wall and base units, Belfast sink and copper work surfaces. There is a Stoves range oven with induction hob, Rangemaster Extractor Hood, built in Microwave, Washing Machine, Tumble Drier, Dish Washer and space for an “American Style” Fridge Freezer. A stable door leads out to the rear garden area. Off the living room is the 3rd bedroom, with a window onto the rear garden an en-suite shower room and a very cleverly designed built in wardrobe and feature wall behind the bed.
Rear garden: - Unusual for Mousehole, Horizon Cottage has a spacious enclosed tiered garden which can be accessed directly from the kitchen or by a gate at the side of the house. With granite terraced walls and mature planting to include a Pear Tree and numerous tropical plants, copper lights lead you up a cobbled path to a slate paved terrace area which has spectacular views over the house to Mousehole village, the harbour and out to sea. Driving from the Newlyn & Penzance direction we recommend to park in the car park just before The Old Coastguard on left had side upon arriving at Mousehole. From here walk down the hill towards the harbour. Passing The Ship Inn on your right follow the road round to the right into Mill Lane up the short hill continue round to the left, now Chapel Street and Mount Pleasant Terrace is the first lane on the right and Horizon Cottage sits at the top.
Public parking is also available in both of the harbour car parks, and as is common in Mousehole there is no direct vehicular access to the property but for bag dropping/deliveries etc the nearest vehicular access is Chapel Street at the bottom of Mount Pleasant.
