Vendor Interview - This attractive and well-presented family home occupies a superb location just two miles from Solihull town centre. Interestingly, the house was originally built on farmland back in the late 1930s, and we know that its first occupant was Wing Commander Mortimer Newgent-Hancox, says the owner. My husband and I bought the house twenty years ago and Id say that it was the style and quirkiness of the property that really appealed to us.
Back then its fair to say that it was in desperate need of renovation as the interior hadnt been updated in years. In fact, so much needed to be done that we decided to completely gut the whole house from top to bottom and essentially start from scratch. Sadly the previous owners had removed a lot of the original features in an attempt to modernise the property, so during the renovation process we decided to reinstate those that were missing and sympathetically restore the original character and charm of the house. Its now a lovely family home and it has such a warm and welcoming feel throughout. Weve had twenty very happy years here.
The garden was another part of the property that had been somewhat neglected, so over time that too has been greatly improved, continues the owner. We now have a lovely patio terrace just outside our garden room and a pretty lawn thats edge with well-stocked borders of shrubs and flowers, however the standout feature is without doubt the pond, which we built during our retirement and has been a real labour of love. Its so pretty and its a real joy to be able to sit out on a warm day and just listen to the gentle sound of the water trickling down the little waterfall.

Favourite aspect of the grounds or surrounding area: The house is set back from the road and is approached by an on-off driveway which was recently redesigned. The garden is wonderfully secluded, so we feel far removed from the everyday hustle and bustle of life, however the location is very convenient, says the owner. Theres a good selection of schools close by, Lode Lane is on the main bus route to both Solihull and Birmingham city centre, so its great if you want to leave the car at home. The Touchwood shopping and entertainment complex is only a mile down the road, so if you want to go shopping, have a meal or visit the cinema its all there.
Memorable event (if not another favourite room or unique feature): Weve had many celebrations and parties whilst weve lived here, the most memorable of which was our millennium party, says the owner. We invited so many people that we enlisted the help of the neighbours to decorate our very large garage, which turned out be an ideal party area, we even had room for the pool table!
What theyll miss most / why they are leaving: This house has been a wonderful home and theres so much that Ill miss, says the owner. And over the years weve made many good friends in the local area and weve also been lucky enough to have wonderful neighbours.'
